I finished reading Mick Wall's book Appetite For Destruction yesterday. The book is a compilation of his articles in Kerrang mainly through 80's big hair-metal era and his own observations of life in the press corp of heavy metal and rock. The writing is honest and the interviews are good, if not a tad too testosterone fueled, but then again the whole music business IS mainly a testosterone fueled cliche. He manages to describe the grit and the alleged glamour of the backstage life, which is certainly gritty but not so glam.
It is a good book and it actually made me giggle in places, but mainly it manages to reinforce my conviction that most of the rock musicians (in this case I am talking about few American ones) are a heavily narcissistic bunch of ego has landed types.
But thank goodness there are musicians who make music, otherwise there would be no ear candy to promote the serotonin production in my brain ;)
