This weekend was quiet as predicted and I spent most of my time on my bed watching the brilliant Danish political drama called Borgen that I had taped from BBC4 over the past few weeks. This was series one and allegedly series two is coming next winter.

Excellent writing, brilliant cast and believable story lines. Good stuff!

Brrrr! *shivers* I do detest winter and all I can do is dream of summer to keep my mind warm. This week has flown by with not much happening apart from "work eat sleep" cycle repeating it self.

This weekend I will definitely stay indoors in the comfort of my cosy bedroom for the most part with some alcoholic refreshments at hand along with some unhealthy snacks. Life will be good ;)

Knackered but happy

There it was the lovely short January holiday with my exceptionally good and dear friend Heavy. We had fun, fresh air a plenty, several pub were patronised and world cured of most evils in few short days according to our brilliant minds in the midst of alcoholic haze.

Her flight took off just a few minutes ago and she should be back in the motherland later tonight with a proper wintry weather, which they can keep over there. For me it is back to my last 14 working days in Covent Garden tomorrow and whilst I am really tired and my gammy leg has more or less resigned to uselessness I have to state I had so much fun!

I do not know when we meet again for a drink or gallon but it might be a while...*deep sigh*

We have voted, we have walked around central London, we have had "some" cold beverages in various establishments all over London. Heavy managed to find the presents that she wanted to buy and there was plenty of food along the way. Good life continues and today we will shop locally before heading to Covent Garden tonight to attend the Ms H's hen do. Here is Heavy toasting you my dear readers ;)

January holiday

Phewwww! The "joys" of Northern Line are done for a few days as I am off work until Tuesday. Heavy flies in today and I will meet her in Gatwick and then there might/will be few cold beverages.

But before that I have to and see my fellow Finn Dr B for my six monthly dental check up and got to go and get some hangover cures in the fridge in the form of not so nutritional and healthy food.

Tomorrow we will go to the Finnish embassy and cast our votes to elect the next President of Finland and then go for a election beer. If we manage to get out of the pub we will go in search of some presents for various people

Saturday is our friend Ms H from Kent hen night. As we are quite middle aged there wont be L plates, veils, beer funnels and penis shaped lollipops etc. We meet in a pub in Covent Garden and then go for a dinner which might turn out to be quite lively as there are 16 of us "ladies" with lashings of alcohol.

Then we have until Monday to go back to pub if the tournament fitness lasts. Life is good ;)

F*cking Northern Line!!!

Two days in a row the misery continues. Except today whilst standing on full to the brim Northern Line platform the announcement informed us happy commuters that "There are delays on District Line and good service on all other London Underground lines". Straight lie.

It was not until after I had been squashed in a hot commuter mash in the overcrowded carriage past Stockwell station did the driver almost gleefully announce that there was a signal failure earlier in Tooting Bec that was causing the severe delay to our journey this morning. Hmmmm...communication award 2012 goes to....not these people.

Hey, why don't we bring a huge sporting event that we Londoners can finance from our taxes into this town so that we can exponentially maximise this misery called travelling to work to make a living.

Wait...f*cking Seb Coe has already done it! Arrrrgggghhhhhh! Take you effing "limpics" and f*ck off all ready!

This morning Northern Line was suspended and the rain has been belting down from just after 7 o'clock.

And if that was not enough to put me on bad mood, apparently the biggest sun storm in centuries is going to make things go uuh aah today when it hits the Earth's magnetic field.

Today hails the Chinese new year and this year is the year of the Dragon. In Chinese astrology the dragon is the only animal of the Chinese zodiac year that is not real, but apparently the Dragon people excel in everything they do.

The dragon Chinese zodiac year is special and my year of the Dragon has kick started rather nicely already. Life is good!

Change is coming! This week I resigned from my receptionist job of the past almost six years. It felt quite scary to do that during these times of austerity but that precisely is the reason I started looking for a new job in the first place. If I hadn't of done it now it might of been more and more difficult the older I get. And with this new job my pay grade goes up very nicely indeed.

My new receptionist position starting 20th Feb is in barristers chambers so law and order will be the name of the game. Barristers, wigs, black gowns, clerks and solicitors will be the everyday for me. It is scary but good scary change as the legal world is a good place to work because I don't think that they run out of business like ever.

So, this new year is actually off to a much better start than I could ever imagine and with this job change I managed to squeeze in three more days to my Arillas holiday. The dropless January has to go as there is some serious celebrating to be done this weekend.

Life is so very very good ;)

I did not do too bad and managed to get a score of 6 out possible 8. There was a button to click for apply, alas I am only Queens subject in this country not a citizen so my application probably would have not gone far.

I love a Friday 13th as it has always been a lucky day for me over the years. This week has been extra tiring for various reasons and every morning I have slept right to the alarm clock going off waking up with a weird sense of not being where I actually am. Every night there have been clear and vivid deep dreams that are in colour and good stuff they have been too.

Tomorrow morning there is NO alarm so I will spend a bit longer in my dreams. Have a good weekend what ever you do!

So this is what 2012 looks like? The weather is unseasonably warm here in London town but I don't mind at all as the saying goes: "Start as you mean to go on!"

This January will be dropless (no alcohol for the duration of the month) as per tradition, but this year it is only for the most part as my dear friend Heavy is arriving on the 26th to attend the Hen Night for Ms H from Kent which is happening on the 28th.

And there will be alcohol. Lots of it. So the last weekend of this month will be loud and rowdy so put your proverbial helmet on and hold tight ;)

Other than that I won't make any promises and I would like to wish you all a prosperous 2012!

2011 Obituary

From my personal point of view this year has been nice and steady with no enormous highs or any deep lows - and that is the way I love it. My best friends have once more been the most important thing in my life and will continue to be that for the unforseeable future.

The world outside my life has been mostly of incredible idiocies, pure evilness, all kinds of religious nuts and natural disasters way too many to mention and I am sure there are more qualified people to talk about that anyway. I am just simply too tired with the bad news and these days choose to ignore them mostly.

My love affair with travel and especially Lisbon and Arillas continued with a trip to Finland squeezed in between them. But despite the day dreaming of something else than dreary every day, the middle age has also started to creep in as I have noticed myself to be more mellow and desiring real comforts rather than grazy and fast experiences that inevitably include crazy and fast people.

Other stuff - to mention a couple of favorites was a new tattoo on my body and I also got a new nephew as well.

Life was good in 2011!

Here we are - last Friday of the year and the barricades are coming up here in central London to keep the hordes of idi... err revellers controlled when they decide wisely(???) to be in central London for a New Year's Eve *shaking my head*

But today from 16.00 I am free to get away from central London, which I will do as swiftly as the Northern Line allows me. My New Year celebrations(?) happen at the comfort of my home with plenty of cold beverages. Life is good ;)

This weekend has gone smoothly with gorgeous food, drink, some pressies and a Skype date with my nephews Young-Vic and little V-Bright. The modern technology is just marvellous in my book and it was good to see the little rascals live and I always do enjoy talking to my Big Brother and Sis-In-Law as well.

My favourite present along with the Tottenham Hotspur 2012 calendar was the Sons of Anarchy whole 3rd season DVD. I have been riveted with first 4 episodes and shortly I will indulge in some more. Life is good ;)

The bah humbug hazzle that is called x-mas is gathering pace here in London town and the last day at work has started. The weather has been thankfully mild but there is rain on its way alledgedly this afternoon.

The clients at work have remembered me with quite a few bottles of white and red vino, so the long weekend should go nicely with me walking around the house with a glass in my hand for the next few days. Life is good ;)

Cold and grey in London town today. Mind you, the underground was lovely and empty as most people seem to have taken both this week and next week of work. Even the streets of Covent Garden seem to be quiet but that probably changes by the afternoon.

Well, normal hours for me this week except on Friday we shut the shop at 16.00 and then it is glorious looooong 4 day weekend with food, drink and even some merriment.

I hedged my bets over three months ago for the gorgeous Harry Judd who actually went and won the whole kerfuffle that is Strictly Come Dancing with his professional dance partner Aliona last night.

He was simply the best of the bunch and a totally deserving winner. Good stuff!

Tonight is the work team's annual piss up ...errrr .....the team dinner and this year we went with Spanish after doing French last year and the year before.

The venue is called Salvador & Amanda and it is just 15 meters from our building so the alledged bad winter weather should not affect us too badly at all.

Saturday is expected to be a hangover day - but I might well post how it all went sometime during the weekend. Good times!

Today six years ago I started this blog with my first post which was short and succinct. I started to keep this blog in anticipation of moving back to UK after few years in Finland just to let my peeps know how life is plodding along.

Well - enthused, ranted and vented I have indeed but my favourite posts have of course been about the good times that have happened in my life which includes all my travels, my friends and my family.

But then there has also been the "dangerous" social and political commentary which has come from the heart with all the supporting facts I could find and choose to include!.

Well hell, it is just my opinion that matters here as it is my blog and no one else's ;)

You, my dear readers, are a right old motley crew consisting of family, friends and occasional internet wanderer including CIA. But anyhow, you are all most welcome to keep reading and I appreciate you doing it along with all your comments and reactions.

HMS Ocean crew sings and dances

...such a good feeling that I had to say it twice! Sunny but cold morning here in London town but here at work the building is positively buzzing as there are few office parties taking place later on and the alcohol deliveries have already started.

I have no plans for the weekend but to stay warm indoors and maybe enjoy a beverage or few to aid the feeling of warmth from inside as well ;)

Once again the law in this country seems to be one for loud minorities in the fear of a backlash than to us mere mortals. "Kill the white slag" was what these girls yelled whilst proceeded to kick and punch a girl who was waiting for a taxi.

The judge did not jail them because these girls were "not used to to alcohol because of their religion".

Justice...? Hmmmm....

Mean while in the US of A, "another young woman" also of a certain religious persuasion was caught drinking and driving and thrown straight to jail. Obviously regretting deeply - of being caught. Oh deary me....

Isn't it time that people would stop hiding behind excuses and just take responsibility of your actions - sober and drunk ones.

I drink, I get drunk and fall over as my religion dictates. Hail the God Dionysus!

Gorgeous crisp and sunny morning in London town. As I went to local Tesco here in Covent Garden this morning there was an unexpected optical pleasure.

Apparently some people are gathering here today to demonstrate about something blaah blaah blaah...

Well, this in turn has brought the riot Police in to town as well and the little Tesco was positively swarming with strapping broadshouldered handsome men in their blue overalls (I suspect the heavy riot gear was left off whilst shopping).

Nice! What a treat first thing in the morning - I am still blushing with pleasure ;)

Riding Giants

I watched last night an excellent documentary from 2004 by Stacy Peralta Riding Giants that I taped from BBC4 over the weekend.

The history of surfing culture is told through the exploits of the pioneers and contemporary heroes of big-wave surfing in Stacy Peralta's documentary, which features the likes of Greg Noll and Jeff Clark. Riding Giants makes palpable the magnitude and terrifying power of the waves they seek to conquer and captures the unfathomable combination of adrenaline and fear that the surfers experience each time they take on a monster swell.

Wow! And good it was too! Hour and a half of sheer escapism, good looking men and gorgeous scenery filmed in Hawaii and California.

I could never ride a wave but oh how much fun it would be able to live on or near a beach and watch people do it. *deep sigh*

The soundtrack of my life - The terrible teens

The terrible teenage years with the unbearable angst and insecurities went by in a haze of sex, alcohol and rock'n'roll. There were no drugs in small town Finland at that time and that was just as well. But there were few boyfriends along the way who all felt like "the one" at least momentarily before discarded or before I was dumped royally.

Let's get back to the music that provided the memories for the years of the terrible teens...

1. Moottoritie On Kuuma by Pelle Miljoona who hails from my small town Finland. Finnish punk with a rather snotty attitude considering this chap was a teacher.

2. The Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden was something to be enjoyed in my friend Rokke's bright red Moskvitch whilst parked at the market square. Those were the days *smiling and shaking my head*

3. Sleepy Sleepers with their assorted "noise" was a firm favourite whilst drinking some gawd awful apretif type of cheap wine in a rowing boat by the Baltic Sea with assorted "friends".

4. Rappiolla by Hassisen Kone was a true anthem for me meaning "in decline" which we were and probably still are ;)

5. Baarikärpänen by Eppu Normaali which celebrated everyones fondness of the alcohol and the tune still comes to my mind when ever I stagger home after a night out.

Then suddenly I reached my 18th B-Day in 1985 and I was allowed into the bars and pubs and restaurants to enjoy the alcohol legally. There was Live Aid and I also got my driving lisence by some fleeting miracle as I got drunk out of my tiny little skull with a professional fire eater the night before the exam.

6. Urgent by Foreigner. AOR it might of been but it did spoke volumes to me and got my derrier moving.

7. "Gimme All Your Loving by ZZ Top added fuel to the 1980 excesses and the guitar drove me simply wild.

8. Sweet Sixteen by Sir Willian Idol. This song came out the year 1986 when I packed my bag and shifted my excistence over from small town Finland to London town. I wasnt scared back then but I would be now.

9. Tru Blue by Madonna. Romantic song for a not so romantic 1986 but a one that would play in the back ground of the film of my life if one was ever made.

10. Still of The Night by Whitesnake tapped into the horny teenager like a nose to a face and made me move in most mysterious ways on the dancefloor...

And so were the 80's done with couple of more boyfriends done and dusted. If this really was the soundtrack to the movie of my life, now would be a good time to take a break and crank up the volume as we approach the 90's....

Lost in few good books

In the past two weeks I have immersed myself in the fast paced reading of Sean Black's excellent books.

I have devoured the Lockdown and Deadlock in the last week and this morning I started with the Gridlock. Ryan Lock and his wingman Ty Johnson are a deadly combination of attractiveness and ruthlesness but with a wicked sense of humour and they always get their man or a woman(no discrimination here with the baddies!). But that usually comes with lots and lots of collateral damage.

Good stuff and I can whole heartedly recommend for anyone to pick any one of these books! Can't wait for the next one ;)

Giving thanks

I am thankful for:

My health - my gammy leg is nothing too bad

Sound Track Of My Life - The early years

I just finished watching yet another rocumentary that I taped from BBC4. Full of memories from songs of old I got thinking how the real soundtarck of my life would play?

If there ever was a film made of me what songs would be on it from 1967 onwards that had an serious emotional impact on me my self and I?

Let's start here.. my earliest musical memories that have made an emotional and lasting impact on me.

1. Pronomini Rock by Spede published in Finland 1966 - This made me laugh back then and the anarchistic singing clearly preceeded Finnish punk.

2. Sugar Baby Love by the Rubettes 1972 - My mum bought this casette and played it Sunday mornings for me to jump on the bed which was nice back in the day.

3. Daa-Da Daa-Da by gorgeous Sammy Babitzin 1972 - This lovely bloke died 7 months after shooting this program and it is just one of those songs that I always sing when putting on my eye liner and mascara and making myself pretty.

Somewhere along here was the age the end of so called innocence as I grew up some and became very aware of the opposite sex. The awareness of sexual tension and dreaming of the "Prince Charming" came about slowly but surely although I was a long way of being any kind of "woman" to any kind of pimple faced "man".

Today started like being stuck in a puddle of mental treacle. Hard to get going, even harder to keep going and the unispiring skies are the colour of dullest November gray.

In total contrast the Toyah concert was buckets of fun Saturday night and I saw old friends and made couple of new ones. The only downside was the lack of seating in the venue, so my gammy leg got totally irate and I had a tought time with the pain yesterday. Luckily a dose of high duty 600mg Ibubrofen every 8 hours did the trick and I managed to walk to tube station with almost no pain this morning.

Well, luckily I have only today and tomorrow to work and then I have glorious 3 days off (the remaining annual leave!) so the next weekend will be nicely extra long.

Yep, my nephew Young Vic has already reached a respectable age of 4 years. He will be having a party with his chums and I am sure my Big Brother and Sis-In-Law will enjoy the house full of hyperactive 4 year olds high on sugar! *sniggering*

I love a bit of gossip and I admit to it freely. I like to mulch over other peoples business as most people do in private, but I do draw the line in broadcasting to the world how much people are earning. I am not in the slightest bit interested in what other people earn and I do not wish anyone to know what I earn.

In Finland the nation is currently revelling in embellishment of the published tax records of inviduals and I just think it is simply discusting. What ever next...? Let's be open about medical records and give access to all and sundry to all the aspects of your private life!

Well, I can happily rule out moving back to Finland in the near future as I dont believe that the way to keep the integrity of a tax system is to keep it public. I will count my little blessings of privacy here amongst the masses in UK. Life is still good ;)

The most ridiculous demonstration has been going on the City just over a week. Some eejits(who obiously are rich enough or do not work and collect benefits to be able to stay) have put up tents by a church but always slip out during the dark cold hours and return to their non consequential task in the morning, which is just to annoy Wan.. errrrr Bankers.

Anti capitalism??? Well, these people dont have any viable or practical ideas to replace the current system, so basically they are just getting their own egos inflated by "trying" to make a difference. The fact is that they can't.

In the Oakland USA their American counterparts saw the authorities charge them with illegal camping and then charged the crowd with tear gas. But the police here can't do that as we have the infamous criminal loving (and open for endless exploitation for not so nice humans) Yuman Rights Act.

If you so despise our way of life just take your tents, go and move to Cuba, China or North Korea where people live in alledged equality that is called communism ( which on paper sounds extremely good but unfortunately DOES NOT work in practise) or some variation of that, so that you can live happily ever after in utopian equality.

Day out with the Ladyeez

I met with the Ladyeez yesterday what fun we had! We started in The Elephants Head in Camden, continued to couple of other pubs and I possibly drank my own bodyweight in beer and had to give up after 8 hours. We did manage to squeeze in a Sushi dinner before leaving Camden and heading to central London we had a swift one in The Intrepid Fox before parking our hinies in the Crow Bar.

I fell asleep in the tube home but a kind drunken chap woke me up at Tooting Broadway to check if I needed to get off there. What ever his reasons I was most grateful and I did manage to stumble out in Colliers Wood and walked in mostly straight line home.

This morning I am feeling a tad fragile, but I expect it will pass. Cheers Ladyeez!

What a week at work! Less said of it the better and I am happy that it comes to an end today at 17.00.

This week the weather has been cold but pretty and the weather forecast promises kindly some warmer weather with wall to wall sunshine for all the weekend which is nice!

Saturday I have a my annual pub moot with the Ladyeez in Camden Town. There will be beer, gossip and lots of appreciation of passing young male form. I will take my camera with me but no promises of any material that can be published on the world wide web ;)

Remember the Motörhead Shiraz I mentioned some time ago? Heavy brought me a bottle of the stuff but I was not very impressed with the contents but loved the etiquet on the bottle.

Well, now AC/DC has come out with a full wine range. Unfortunately it is so far available only in Australia.

Strictly quiet weekend

Like I predicted on Friday, the weekend has been nice and relaxing and apart from my chores I have done absolut minimum possible.

Then again, my heart rate did shoot up as I watched gorgeous Harry Judd of the band McFly dancing a Jive with his dance partner Aliona in Strictly Come Dancing.

It was a week 3 with Broadway theme but Harry has been my favourite since the launch episode. I hedge my bets here and I hope he progresses all the way to the final. Phwaaaaarrrrr......gorgeous!

I had a quiet weekend and most of it I spent in bed with a book by Jo Nesbø called The Leopard. And a good book it was too as I had trouble of letting go at the end of it.

This morning in the tube whilst reading another completely different book, my mind kept drifting back to the story of The Leopard and it's twists and turns and especially the many different and discusting ways of making another human being suffer and then die. *shivers*

But this Norwegian author keeps me entertained with his books and I am looking forward to the next one called Headhunters.

This week has been long and cold. The temperatures have come down about 20 degrees since this time last week and the long trousers are back on.

Good news is that there will be £75 billion more of the beautiful cash printed by the B of E. But in my opinion it is a bit too late to fart when the economy has already shit it's proverbial pants and it will turn out to be too little too late.

Stranger news hail from the states side as I read about the Amish feuds where mens beards and womens hair have been forcibly cut. Curiouser and curiouser these religious nutty news and all they manage to do is that they just force my standing against all kinds of organized religion.

And what made me smile was this story of Sausage, the Athens riot dog as it provided something other than bad news from Greece.

But never mind the rest of the world as I am few measly hours away from the freedom that is called the weekend. Life is good ;)

In Italy they have just showed what that is. Reasonable doubt was brought on by (the nothing like TV's CSI!) Italian small town police, silly prosecution and incompetent lab work. The evidence clearly left room for reasonable doubt and now Ms Knox is free.

Well, is she ever really going to be...? If she can earn a million dollars from an interview she should do it because what are her chanches of normal life ever after all this?

What also escapes me is that there is already a bloke convicted of the murder with actual evidence that holds. Why is there still the need to prove something else? Maybe that is all that there is, but I guess it is highly unlikely that we will never know.

How does this affect my life? Not at all and I am thankful for that.

Yesterday I took part in the London Tattoo Convention in the capacity of a steward generally helping people and pointing them at the right direction on their request in the complex venue that is the London Tobacco Dock.

It was a good day with Rock'n'Roll classics blasting in the sound system, whrirring of the tattoo machines and smell of ink in the air. My gammy leg was somewhat knackered at the end of the day but it was worth it as I saw some old friends from a over decade ago and it was nice to catch up. Good stuff!

This weekend I have volunteered for the London Tattoo Convention for a day on Saturday. No, not to be voluntarily tattooed in front of thousands, but to help with running of the event.

Mind you if a great tattoo artist was to offer their services, I really would find it hard to say no.

But finally I had to admit this morning that the autumn is here and my knee lenght jeans are not warm enough and neither is my hooded top, so grudginly I had to wear full lenght jeans with a proper coat.

After a tiring and slow week Friday is finally here. Mostly I have battled with this stupid cold but I seem to be winning. That in turn has made me somewhat ratty as you can see from the previous post.

But my little tube fare rise problems are no match to the problems for the geeks errr.... profs in CERN as they seem to have lost or actually not found the Higgs boson particle so all the physics are up for speculation once more.

Never mind the principles of quantum or other physics as the weekend is here and I am healthier and happier :)

P.S The Handsome Stranger was in the tube on the home journey last night, which was nice! The situation remains status quo though as I just admire him from a far...*deep sigh*

Arillas 2011 - back in Blighty

Last night in the village was a lot of fun. After last day on the beach we started with a looooong dinner in lovely Armourada and some white vino with one of our new friends "Hurricane" Irene. Said our goodbyes there and walked the familiar route through the village to the Coconut Bar.

Few beers and a lot of laughter followed but then unlike me I was in floods of tears when we said our last goodbyes. Mind you I was not the only one as Heavy was also wiping her eyes and then we started laughing at each other. This happened relatively early as we managed to get out of the bar by 02.00 which is the earliest I believe during last two weeks.

I woke up 10 min before the alarm at 07.20 and got on with the remaining packing. The taxi was ordered for 08.30 and our friend Sandy dropped of Margaret at the Brouklis as we were sharing the taxi which was driven by our favourite taxi driver Nikos who has been carting us to and from the airport for the past few years. All too quick it was time for goodbyes and I nearly started blubbing again.

Captain Callaghan flew us home in a timely manner and the SleazyJet flight was nice an painless experience allthough there was plenty of monsters and infants. The weather in London was surprising pleasant and the rest of my journey continued with no problems and I got home precisely two hours after landing in Gatwick.

I will miss many things apart from the obvious ie the beach, the Ionian Sea and the Royal Ionian Beer. I miss having morning frappe at the Sharon’s Pool Bar, Nigels gentle guitar playing on the balcony of the Marinaki Hotel and Mama Kiki’s cat feeding time to mention a few.

Arillas is the warm woolly socks for the mind to quote my Big Brother. But with the strange political and financial situation in Greece I am not sure the old Arillas will be there next year. All ready many shops were closed and the trend might well continue as the strange situation becomes more apparent with the system not working and the cleaning up of the old disastrous politics and bribery.

Now I am back in the real gritty world getting on with laundry and other chores and I have made a start with the holiday video editing so that will be a great reminder of the past fortnight.

Still, all I can say is that life is good all in all ;)

Arillas 2011 - Day after the B-Day

Hard lounging on the beach life was slightly interupped yesterday because of my 2 x 22 B-Day. It did not help that we had been in the bar until 03.00 previous night but our tournament fitness allowed to continue.

At lunch in Portofino I went to powder my nose and I was washing my hands when I heard the song Happy Birthday to you booming from the speakers. I walk back into the restaurant and there was a large bowl of ice cream with umbrellas and other assorted cocktail parafenilia piled on top of it. Raucous laughter followed as Spiros said that he forgot to check if was on the table before he made his B-Day presentation.

Then after swim and few more hours on the beach we came home to have a little rest. Then we made ourselves pretty, I wore my new Corfu Beer T-Shirt that I had purchased from the brevery and headed to Armourada. Vasilis had made a special setting on our favourite table and we started our long awaited lobster dinner. Again we called the said lobster Stavros and nice he was too!

Then suddenly a man with an accordian and another with a guitar walk in and start playing Happy Birthday to you and gazillion different coloured napkins started to fly and I nearly died of embarasment and Heavy nearly of laughter.

After we had got over the live music and flying napkins and once we had devoured Stavros the taverna was plunged into darkness and Happy Birthday To You stated playing and a gorgeous cake was delivered to the table with sparklers. Nice!

Then we thanked everyone and left for the Coconut Bar where we met with friends for a few beverages. And would you believe it suddenly the bar went dark and Happy Birthday To You started on the sound system and a bottle of bubbly arrived in a bucket with sparklers to our end of the bar. Then there were assortment of little presents and the drinking crew had expanded and the alcohol fuelled merriment continued until about 03.00 when we fell out of the bar.

What a fun day and brilliant night! Thank you all my friends and especially Heavy for making it so much fun although somewhat embarrasing at times :)

Arillas 2011 - errr...the last couple of days

As you can imagine life has been soooooo good that there has barely been time to document it all. There has been tons of good food, days at the beach, days at Sharon's Pool Bar with tan coming along nicely, rock music nights in the Coconut Bar, visit to the Royal Ionian brevery, darts being played, hunting for a functional cash point in Agios Stefano - Avliotes - Sidari and back again with our friend Eggy.

Then he finally dropped us on the top of the hill to Nikos's gorgeous Akrotitri Lounge Bar where few hours of lounging was done with cold beverages (previous post pic!). Then we walked down as the sun was going down and parked our tired derries on our favorite table downstairs in the Brouklis Taverna and had a gorgeous meal after which we came upstairs and I can barely remember closing my bedroom door before my lights we out.

Last night was buckets of fun and warmly remembered this morning. We had a lovely meal again in Armourada, this time it was turn for Mama Kiki's excellent Pastitsada.

Then it was the turn of the Coconut Bar where we enjoyed the entertaining Freddie Mercury show along with Sharon from Sharon's Pool Bar. There was singing, dancing and even a quick headbanging session to Bohemian Raphsody. Then suddenly all the power went and we spent an hour in the candelight enjoying more cold beverages. Then the power returned and Freddie soundalike finished his set. Brilliant night!

This morning we parked our selves at the beach again, went for a nice frappe at Sharons, swim swim and more swim and then it was suddenly lunch time and we enjoyed it in Portofino with our friend Michelle. As we left our friend Sandy arrived to the village so the more the merrier theme continues.

Tonight we will dine downstairs and the head to watch the Europa League second leg Tottenham - Hearts game to the bar. How much do you think I love my life at this time? A LOT!

Today we woke up early, did some laundry, ate some breakfast and headed to Sharon's Pool Bar for a frappe and a smoothie. Then we actually left the village and took the marvellous little resort bus that shuttles between Arillas and few other places.

We headed to Sidari through Agios Stefanos and Avliotes and it was a nice sight seeing tour of the North of the island. Sidari itself is definetly not my kind of resort but we did have nice leisurly lunch in the Sunset Restaurant over looking the beach.

Then we came back after few hours to lovely Arillas and told everyone how we had missed it and how happy we were to be back. No picture today as there was not a lot of scenery to take pictures from.

Tonight is the Freddie Mercury tribute show in the Coconut Bar and I believe some singing is going to happen hastened by the consuming of the lovely local beer Royal Ionian.

This morning dawned hot hot hot and we got up surpringly lively with only a hint of hangover at 09.00. Breakfast at home and then for a lovely cold frappe at Sharon's Pool Bar. Then it time to go and spent some more time in the Ionian sea and nice it was too. More lying around on the sunloungers and then it was lunch time and we headed over to Portofino.

Tonight we are eating in downstairs taverna and I believe some chilled white vino will be consumed. Life in the village continues to be good!

Arillas 2011 - Day 1

Yesterday all the travelling went without any hic ups and nice it was too. SleazyJet was surprisingly civilized and next to me sat this chap called Danny who was with his mates heading to Kalami for a week of floricking in the sun. Few beverages were had and the flight flew past with few giggles.

We landed 10 min before estimated time of arrival, my bag came surprisingly quickly on the carousel and my taxi driver Nikos was waiting. Up the mountain we went and down the other side and throught the olive groves. I got to Arillas just after 23.00. I was met by Heavy and my hosts Dimitris and his wife Litsa and after throwing the luggage upstairs we sat down for a late supper in the taverna. Then of course we had to go and say hello to everyone in the Coconut Bar and predictably few more drinks were consumed.

This morning was gratefully almost hangover free and we went to have a frappe at Sharon's Pool Bar. Then it was time for beach and I headed staright into the Ionian sea where I spent the next half an hour or so before laying on my sunlounger until lunch time. Lunch was in Thalassa and kisses all around from lovely Spiros and good food and cold beer.

Tonight it is the long awaited return to our favorite taverna Armourada and mama Kiki's most excellent food along with lashings of white vino. Life is good!

Towards Arillas

It is Friday and finally it is THE Friday when I travel to my annual dose of extra good life in the beautiful Arillas on the gorgeous island of Corfu. I don't know if any of you know it, but the backround image of this blog is actually of Arillas.

So for the next two weeks not only is my blog based in Arillas but so am I along with my good friend Heavy. In few hours I will head to Gatwick Airport to catch a SleazyJet plane to Corfu. Ta'raa and next time I will write from Arillas! Life is GOOD!

This news sounds promising but probably just words and too good to be true. So come on then Call Me Dave, show that you have a pair or get on with it and grow yourself one!

This point especially needs a desperate review in my opinion as the so called "Yuman Rights" have annoyed the proverbial shit out me for years:
