Going Greek

Greek Beach by the Thames was brilliant! Skies were blue, weather was hot, Mythos was cold and we had our feet in the sand. At times I managed to think that I was no longer in London town. Good times!

Friday night at the Auberge

Friday evening after work we headed to Mayfair with my colleagues and met with Ms Lynn who is our business associate for a dinner. The venue was Auberge and the food was good and we managed to keep it civilized. Here are couple of pictures.

Midsummer

Hot and sunny day in London town. And the weather alledgedly will continue as such until next week. Nice!

Tonight after work my colleagues and I will go for a few cold ones and Saturday is the turn for the Greek Beach by the Thames (instead of Sunday!) where cold Mythos will cool the parts other beers cannot reach. Sunday there is The Football game and that is the weekend schedule sorted :)

Heavy in Finland is celebrating Finnish Juhannus with The Sisters at their summer cottage. But unfortunately their weather is somewhat more moist and I expect there will be a lot of mosquitoes by the lake. But I am sure after few Lonkero's life will be good, rain or shine ;)

Where ever you are, what ever you do this weekend,
I hope you have a fabulous Midsummer!

Greek Beach by the Thames

All this week (and the last) there is a Greek beach in London town. Greek Beach by the Thames is a Greek Tourist organization event and there are sun loungers, Greek beverages and food to be enjoyed. On Sunday is the Ionian Islands Day and I just might have to sneak there for a cold Mythos or two as the weather seems to be lovely. Good times!!!

How to get there:

The Greek beach takes place on the South Bank Riverside walkway by Gabriel’s Wharf. London SE1 9PP. Nearest tube is Waterloo or Southwark.

Opening Hours: Fri 18 - Sun 27 June; 10.00 - 19.00. Alcohol is sold after 12.00.

Yes Mrs Prime Minister

Today Finland will get a (like Gordon Brown was here) unelected new Prime Minister. Mari Kiviniemi will be the second woman to hold the office in Finnish history and will serve at least until next Finnish Parliamentary elections are held on April 2011. The previous one had to resign after a scandal after only couple of months.

Let's see if she is up to the job or will she drive Finland down like Gordon did with Little Britain. Jury's out!

Summer Solstice

Grey and not very warm summer solstice morning in London town. The longest day of the year happened on a Monday this year, but I do hope that does not mean it literally will be the longest day. We'll see...

Layout changes

Quiet Sunday morning so I thought I refresh the blog look. It does not look so good if you are viewing with other browser than Firefox. Not sure if I will keep it like this but for now it will do.

Royal Wedding

Update 19.06.2010 @13.45

I was getting ready to watch the wedding hoopla and an unfriendly message was on the screen:

Due to legal restrictions, the requested material can be viewed only within Sweden.

Thank you for nothing and once again the west of Finland and it's tv has proved to be run by left handed bankers with a W. Back to football...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today the Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden is finally marrying her commoner sweetheart called Daniel who will become Prince Daniel. I have always liked this princess of west of Finland as she seems to have a good head on her shoulders. I will follow the festivities live from SVT player. Congratulations!

Football

Finally a good game in this World Cup! Delicious Mexico gave France seriously hard time and the French did not know how to deal with that. After the England-USA game, this was the first game (that I was able to watch!) that provided the required excitement of a World Cup game. Also, the Mexico team has the most good looking men so far in this tournament, which is always easy on the old optic nerve.

But tonight all eyes are on the the England team. They are not pretty (David Beckham is not playing!), our goalie has butter fingers but I know they can play. Beer is in the fridge and snacks are at hand ready for tonight. Good times!

Enough with the noise!

Love them or hate them the noise making thing called vuvuzela is to stay in the world cup. I think they are fine when there is a goal celebration, but other times shut the f up already! And that is all I have to say about it.

First pea crop

A while ago I planted the peas in the garden and now the first crop is almost here. These pictures were taken yesterday afternoon and I believe in the next few days there will be sweet peas eaten straight form the pod on the menu. Good stuff!

Tired Thursday

The post holiday tiredness/blues has hit me with the vengeance. This morning I kept falling to sleep in the tube and almost missed my stop. And this has been after two extremely good nights sleeps. Work has been busy and my only way to cope has been to consume energy drinks.

The holiday good food/alcohol related swelling is going nicely down and my work suit is starting to sit on me slightly more comfortably than couple of days ago, which is nice. What was nice about the holiday this time was that neither Heavy or I got bitten by mossies, so no itchy bits to scar. Good stuff!

But as always I cannot wait for the weekend and this weekend there is the bonus of the impending World Cup served with ice cold beer. But to keep the balance in the universe, Min and I will go and see the Sex & The City 2 film Saturday afternoon, and do the girly thing for a couple of hours.

Deimos video

A while ago my Younger Brother got one of them android phones and since then there has been some good visual material in the making of my favorite silk haired mutt Deimos. Here is a short video of him messing about in Finnish summer. What a beautiful beast :)

Thank you Alykes!

Back safely in London town. Last night in the village was a blast and we traveled with a slight hangover back to the Old Blighty and we were totally miffed off that it all had to end. The plane was full off screaming infants but the flight itself was quite quick. Today I'll escort Heavy out of this country towards Finland but I will be sad to see her go. But we'll see each other soon enough again in August in Arillas for some more beach life.

Here are few pictures of us and some of the lovely people we met in Alykes. Video and other pics will follow in due course. Now I have to get on with the task of washing the entire contents of my suitcase. *deep sigh*

Alykes - Part 7

All good things come to an end as does our gorgeous holiday. Yesterday we even managed to pop over to Zante town. Alas we didn't do much shopping but ate well and had a nice walk around the town. This morning we had rain but still maged to squeeze in couple of hours of sunbathing before last long leisurly lunch.

Now it is back to the apartment, packing, shower and then we will start our long round of good byes around the village. *deep sigh*

Gebadine

During our time here in Alykes, we have unintentionally crashed few parties and met some really fun people. One wedding, one 75th birthday and one 50th birthday party.

We also met three loud ladies on the beach who are equally fond of beer and beach life. They are special needs kids teachers from up North and with them travelled a doll called Gebadine who sends cards to their kids in their school from holidays. Nice!

Alykes - Part 6

Yesterday we had rain in the morning and thick clouds covered the village until the late afternoon when strong winds started to blow. By the time we finished our looooong lunch the skies were blue once again.

Dinner was enjoyed with lashings of white vino in the Ponderosa and then we continued to the Sugarbush where we had couple of drinks before crashing out at a quite reasonable time for a change. This morning we headed straight to the beach and now in the afternoon I had my holiday weary nails attended to by a lady called Brenda who made them pretty again. Life is good ;)
