Friday after 1st week

This week gone has been a right old roller-coaster ride of learning, forgetting, just getting on with it and remembering again what ever it was that it was all about in the first place. The barristers seem to be a perfectly lovely bunch and all the clerks(and a Barrister or two!) are Tottenham supporters, which is really nice indeed.

Now that I have some distance to my last company, I have noticed how indifferently they actually treat their staff. I even found out that after six years they only gave my new employer a generic "Ms KB worked with the Company during this time and that time" reference. I could almost not believe it and now I wish I would of left earlier as they really did not seem to appreciate me as an employee. The indifferent reference is not the only darn sad thing to have to say but what I will say anyway: good riddance to bad Company!

Enough of the past! Here in the now I only noticed on my third day that I actually work next door to the famous Temple Church where few Knights of Templar are buried. It was also made famous by Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code when the book's characters are trying to solve a riddle:

"In London lies a knight a Pope interred.
 His labour's fruit a Holy wrath incurred.
 You seek the orb that ought be on his tomb.
It speaks of Rosy flesh and seeded womb." 

Well, I have yet to see any weird self flagellating monks or other strange goings on. But a lot of tourists obviously on the trail of the book or just to view the unusual round shaped church.

Today is Friday and I am very happy to rest my weary head this weekend whilst relaxing with a glass or two of vino. Life is good!

Getting around

Yesterday was the second day in the new job and I ventured out to get my bearings of this part of London town at lunch time. I found the Shoe Lane Library and promptly joined it and got few of the Jack Reacher novels by Lee Child to entertain me during my daily commute.

Weather is keeping nice and the temperature for February is just brilliant! Life is good!

First day survived

First day in my new job behind me and my blonde head is whirring with information, names, faces and proceedures. But after the massive awkwardness feeling in the beginning it turned out to be not too bad at all and today feels already a little bit easier. An with a view like this on the way to work - I can't really complain!

The morning after the night before

I think I am still a littler bit drunk and the hangover is yet to hit me. Lots of people turned up for the leaving drinks and fun it was too.

It was all very civilized....

Until it went predictably nuts

I managed to get home with all the presents (mostly bottles of vino) and flowers (that had suffered a bit on the pub floor). Miraculously I had not lost anything along the way. Thank you friends and old colleagues - it was fun!

Last day in Garrick St

Well, here we are finally - the last day in Garrick Street in Covent Garden. Just short of 6 years with the Company and 3 and half years behind this reception desk are coming to end today at 17.00. Then we move to the bar next door and enjoy few cold beverages with my colleagues and few clients.

I will miss many of the people in the building; Ms B who has been a brilliant colleague, James the javelin thrower and fellow Tottenham supporter, all my assorted "work husbands", our lovely postman Mick and not forgetting Ed and Larry in the photo shop across the street to mention few.

I will miss this view - people watching, spotting passing celebrities etc.



But change is a coming and on Monday is the scary proverbial first day of school in the new job. So, onwards and upwards and absolutely no regrets!

My canine Valentine

I received my one and only Valentine's card from my lovely Dogs Trust sponsor dog Phil. Awww...*deep sigh*

In bed with Borgen

This weekend was quiet as predicted and I spent most of my time on my bed watching the brilliant Danish political drama called Borgen that I had taped from BBC4 over the past few weeks. This was series one and allegedly series two is coming next winter.

Excellent writing, brilliant cast and believable story lines. Good stuff!

Gorgeous "don't want kids" George

Cold weather that is called winter continues here in London town but this news warmed me up in no time. Gorgeous George Clooney does not want children and that is how I like him and actually any man that I fancy.

So here I am still waiting to not have your children George ;)

Confession time

Four more mature ladies are sitting around playing cards.

The first of them says, "You know girls, I have known you all a long time and there is something I must get off my chest. I am a kleptomaniac. But, don't worry, I have never stolen from you and I never will; we have been friends for too long."

The second one says, "Well, since we are having true confessions here, I must get something off my chest too. I am a nymphomaniac. But don't worry, I have never made a play for your husbands. They don't interest me and never will; we have been friends for too long."

"Well," says the third one, "I, too, must confess something. I am a lesbian. But do not worry, I will not bother you. You are not my type. We have been friends too long for me to ruin our friendship."

The fourth lady stands up, says, "I have a confession to make also. I am an uncontrollable gossip, and I have some phone calls to make!"

Freezing Friday

Brrrr! *shivers* I do detest winter and all I can do is dream of summer to keep my mind warm. This week has flown by with not much happening apart from "work eat sleep" cycle repeating it self.

This weekend I will definitely stay indoors in the comfort of my cosy bedroom for the most part with some alcoholic refreshments at hand along with some unhealthy snacks. Life will be good ;)
